Rogers Cup- Day 4 Men’s Picks

The Men play their 3rd round matches in Montreal as the action begins to heat up. With many of the big names still in action, it promises to be an exciting day- Here are my predictions!

Gilles Muller vs Andy Murray

2nd seed Andy Murray could have a very difficult match against Gilles Muller second on Court Central. They last played at Queens earlier this year, where Murray had to battle past Muller for a three sets victory. Muller, who defeated 15th seed Gael Monfils in the 2nd round, is still going strong at the age of 32 and his big serve and volleying are difficult for anyone to play against. Murray saw off Tommy Robredo relatively comfortably 6-4 7-5, which will boost his confidence after a disappointing tournament in Washington. Murray leads the head to head 4-0 and definitely has the stronger game, though it might not be easy if Muller is serving well.

Prediction: Murray in 2

Bernard Tomic vs Jo-Wilfried Tsonga

Defending champion Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will have a difficult match against the in-form Bernard Tomic on Banque Nationale. Tomic, despite some off-court issues, has risen almost 50 places in the rankings this year and defended his title in Bogota last month. He has been very impressive so far in Montreal, seeing off Joao Sousa in straight sets before upsetting 6th seed Marin Cilic in straight sets. Tsonga saw off young gun Borna Coric in straight sets in the 1st round before having to battle past Roberto Bautista Agut in three sets. Tsonga hasn’t reached a final since his victory in Toronto last year but does lead their head to head 2-0, though Tomic is certainly capable of the upset.

Prediction: Tomic in 3

Novak Djokovic vs Jack Sock

Novak Djokovic starts the action on Court Central today against American hope Jack Sock. It wasn’t an easy win for Djokovic on tuesday, but he saw off Tomaz Bellucci in straight sets and his game seemed to be in a good place. Sock has had a good year overall, including winning his 1st title in Houston, and can certainly test Djokovic is his forehand is working well. The forehand is certainly the strongest shot for Sock, and if this isn’t firing it he will have little chance against an in-form Djokovic. It will be interesting to see what level the World No. 1 brings to court.

Prediction: Djokovic in 2
