2016 Monterrey Open- Heather Watson vs Caroline Wozniacki

Two women who have played well in Monterrey so far face off in an potentially interesting quarter-final clash, with Heather Watson taking on 2nd seed Caroline Wozniacki for a semi-final spot. This match takes place at around 19:00 Monterrey Time (01:00 UK Time) and the winner will face 5th seed Caroline Garcia or Pauline Parmentier in the semi-finals.

It has been a pretty good road to the quarter-final for both women, considering that neither of the two has had the best season. Wozniacki has been the most impressive, not losing a set to Olga Govortsova or Mirjana Lucic-Baroni in her two matches so far; they are impressive wins over tricky opponents and she’ll be confident after them. Things were a bit tougher for Watson to begin with as she was pushed to three sets by Misaki Doi in the first round, though she eased past Polona Hercog in straight sets in the second round; that was an impressive win and she will be confident after that result.

Both can be aggressive though it is Watson who is generally more willing to attack. The Brit will need to do that here, especially if Wozniacki is attacking well; she has done that so far. Watson must also be careful to not make too many errors and must be patient when attacking Wozniacki’s defence, which could take a while to break down. Wozniacki should look to attack especially if Watson is playing well and the Dane could need to defend well against Watson’s attacking game. One area where Watson and Wozniacki are underrated is serving. Both can be good servers on their day and that could be a key factor in this match.

The two have never met before so it will be interesting to see who gets used to their opponent’s game the quickest. Both women are playing well though Wozniacki has arguably been playing better and should be able to edge this, though Watson has the game to make it tricky for Wozniacki.

Prediction: Wozniacki in 3

2016 Monterrey Open- Olga Govortsova vs Caroline Wozniacki

Caroline Wozniacki doesn’t have the easiest opening round at the Monterrey Open as the 2nd seed faces the aggressive Olga Govortsova in an interesting first round clash. This match is set to take place at around 21:00 Monterrey Time (03:00 UK Time) and the winner will face another tricky encounter in the form of Mirjana Lucic-Baroni in the second round.

(This match was rescheduled to start at 13:00 Monterrey Time (19:00 UK Time) the next day.)

With neither of the two having had a good start to this season, it will be interesting to see who is the more confident of the two. Wozniacki has slipped down the rankings a little bit already this year due to some poor performances; however there were some positive signs in Doha last week and she’ll be looking to continue her slightly better form. It hasn’t been a great start for Wozniacki but it has been even worse for Govortsova who has only won one match so far this year. The Belorussian may be low on confidence, but could feel she has a chance against an opponent who hasn’t been playing that well either.

One advantage that Govortsova has is that he aggressive and relatively powerful game could bother Wozniacki who has seemed to be content to defend more in recent months, despite the fact her tennis is stronger when she attacks. Govortsova will need to be careful to not make too many errors though and must be willing to build up the point and not try to force a winner too early. Wozniacki will need to serve well to not give Govortsova too many opportunities on her second serve and should also look to try and attack as much as she can; her chances of winning will probably go up if she does.

It is Wozniacki who won their only previous meeting, though that was almost six years ago so is unlikely to have much of an indication on how this match will pan out. This should certainly be an interesting match between two women with a point to prove, but with Wozniacki showing some signs of improvement last week she should be able to edge this.

Prediction: Wozniacki in 3

2015 China Open- Day 5 Women’s Picks

The 3rd round action begins in Beijing today for the women, with some interesting matches taking place- here are three of my predictions!

Andrea Petkovic vs Sara Errani

13th seed Andrea Petkovic will look to continue her good form against Sara Errani in the 2nd match on the National Tennis Stadium. Petkovic has looked very impressive so far, cruising past Eugenie Bouchard before the Canadian retired and then putting in another comfortable performance against Sam Stosur. Errani was impressive in a straight sets upset win over 2nd seed Petra Kvitova in the 1st round, though had to work harder to overcome Caroline Garcia in 3 sets. The two have only ever played each other on clay before, with the head to head 2-2, and it should be an interesting match with Petkovic’s power vs Errani’s fight. It could be a close match, but Petkovic’s power and form should help her to victory here.

Prediction: Petkovic in 2

Madison Keys vs Agnieszka Radwanska

The 3rd match on the National Tennis Stadium sees a complete battle of style as the powerful 14th seed Madison Keys takes on the delicate play of 4th seed Agnieszka Radwanska. Keys started well with a comfortable win over Kiki Mladenovic, and then just conceded 1 game in the final two sets after coming from a set down against Kateryna Bondarenko in the 2nd round. Radwanska also came from a set down in the 2nd round, eventually battling past Mona Barthel, and had an early finish in her 1st match as Coco Vandeweghe retired after the 1st set. Radwanska leads the head to head 4-1, though Keys cruised past the Pole at the US Open and Radwanska will struggle if Keys is at her best. The American has enough power to cruise past Radwanska, but will she have the patience and few errors on Wednesday? It should be tight, though I think that Radwanska will edge this.

Prediction: Radwanska in 3

Angelique Kerber vs Caroline Wozniacki

An interesting match kicks off the night session as 10th seed Angelique Kerber taking on 8th seed Caroline Wozniacki. Kerber received a bye in the 1st round after reaching the semi-finals in Wuhan, but wasn’t affected by the turnaround at all as she eased past the tricky Dominika Cibulkova in the 2nd round. Wozniacki has been fairly comfortable so far, easing past Bojana Jovanovski and Qiang Wang in straight sets, and will be hard to beat here. Kerber leads the head to head 6-5 but Wozniacki won their last meeting (in Tokyo just 2 weeks ago) and with many of their matches being thrillers in the past, we should get another great match here. It should be a tight match, though I think Kerber is in slightly better form of late (she’s also had the better year) and should edge this one.

Prediction: Kerber in 3

Also in action

The other 3rd round match should be close, with 7th seed Carla Suarez Navarro taking on 12th seed Timea Bacsinszky. There is also the final 2nd round match, with 5th seed and Wuhan finalist Garbine Muguruza taking on Irina Falconi.

2015 Wuhan Open- Day 3 Predictions

Action continues at the Wuhan, with some of the big names in action for the first time. Here are three of my picks for the action today!

Angelique Kerber vs Jelena Jankovic

Two of the best defenders on the tour face off as 6th seed Angelique Kerber takes on Jelena Jankovic in the first match on Centre Court. The odds are stacked against Jankovic to some extent; she has already had to play a match here (a tight win over Heather Watson), has had a tough turn around from winning the title in Guangzhou and has only beaten Kerber once in four previous meetings. Kerber has also been in great form the past few months, and will be well-rested after a quarter-final loss in Tokyo. Jankovic will be confident after stringing a few matches together but she may be worn out and the stronger form of Kerber should see the German take the win.

Prediction: Kerber in 2

Anna Karolina Schmiedlova vs Caroline Wozniacki

4th seed Caroline Wozniacki is second up on Centre Court, and will most likely have a difficult match against the talented youngster Anna Karolina Schmiedlova. It hasn’t been the best year for Wozniacki though she played some good tennis in Tokyo, reaching the semi-finals, and she will be confident heading in to Wuhan. Schmiedlova certainly has the weapons to trouble Wozniacki and also reached the semi-finals of a tournament last week, in Seoul, but has already had to play a match here (Completing a 6-4 6-4 win over Mariana Duque Marino) and may be a bit tired coming into this match. It promises to be tight, but I think the rest and confidence Wozniacki has got will help her here.

Prediction:Wozniacki in 3

Petra Kvitova vs Daria Gavrilova

It is potentially not the easiest opener for defending champion and 3rd seed Petra Kvitova against Daria Gavrilova. It was a difficult summer for Kvitova following her diagnosis with Mono, but she won New Haven and the reached the quarter-finals of the US Open for the first time, losing to eventual champion Flavia Pennetta- Kvitova seems to be in good form at the moment. It’s been the best season ever for Daria Gavrilova, recording wins over Maria Sharapova and Ana Ivanovic, though she has gone off the boil a bit as of late. She started with a relatively comfortable win over Teliana Pereira, which shouldn’t have taken much out of her, though she doesn’t have the weapons to take on an in-form Kvitova. If the two-time Wimbledon champion is near her best, she shouldn’t have much trouble.

Kvitova in 2

Also in action

Top seed Simona Halep could have a difficult opener against the erratic Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, whilst Ana Ivanovic plays Madison Brengle and Carla Suarez Navarro begins her campaign against Monica Nicelescu. There is an interesting match between Sloane Stephens and Garbine Muguruza, whilst other names in action include Roberta Vinci and Elina Svitolina.

2015 Connecticut Open- Quarter-Final Predictions

Only eight women are left standing in New Haven, with a combination of the top seed and some surprise packages left in the tournament- here are my predictions for today!

Lesia Tsurenko vs Karolina Pliskova

5th seed Karolina Pliskova will be looking to play much better tennis today as she faces Lucky Loser Lesia Tsurenko in the first quarter-final of the day. She played badly in Toronto and Cincinnati and was not at her best in the first round, edging past qualifier Polona Hercog. However she was much more comfortable against another qualifier, Olga Savchuk, in the second round yesterday. Tsurenko lost in qualifying but was chosen to replace Simona Halep, who withdrew, at the top of the draw and received a bye in the first round. She then cruised past Barbora Strycova in her second round match, and has been in great form this year. Pliskova leads the head to head 2-1 but they haven’t played since 2012 and both have improved since then. Pliskova should be able to edge this one, though Tsurenko could make life difficult for the Czech.

Prediction: Pliskova in 3

Lucie Safarova vs Dominika Cibulkova

Lucie Safarova will be looking to make her first semi-final since the French Open as she faces Dominika Cibulkova in the second quarter-final today. Safarova has had two potentially difficult matches against Daria Gavrilova and Irina-Camelia Begu, and she saw both women off by the relatively comfortable scoreline 6-3 6-4. It’s been much more difficult for Cibulkova, who’s returning from injury, as she’s had to battle past Tsvetana Pironkova and Kiki Mladenovic in two long, three set matches. She has had the benefit of a day off and leads the head to head 4-1, including a tight two sets victory in Eastbourne earlier this year. There is clearly something a bout Cibulkova’s game that bothers Safarova and whilst it seems logical to back Safarova, Cibulkova can’t be ruled out here.

Prediction: Safarova in 3

Caroline Garcia vs Caroline Wozniacki

The final match of the day sees a battle of Caroline vs Caroline, as the unseeded Garcia faces the 3rd seed and four-time champion Wozniacki. Garcia has been very impressive so far, cruising past 6th seed Timea Bacsinszky before edging past Magdalena Rybarikova in two tight sets. Wozniacki improved her form with crushing victory over Alison Riske in her first match, but then had to save three match points against the very tricky Roberta Vinci. Garcia is extremely talented but can be very erratic and will need to be near her best to be able to beat Wozniacki. However Wozniacki’s form has been average this year and Garcia could potentially overpower the Dane if she’s not at her best. Wozniacki will be the favourite, though I think Garcia could edge this if she plays well,

Prediction: Garcia in 3

Agnieszka Radwanska vs Petra Kvitova

The only quarter where the seedings have worked out delivers a mouth-watering quarter-final, as 7th seed Agnieszka Radwanska faces 2nd seed Petra Kvitova in third match of the day. Radwanska hasn’t been in great form this year but has played well so far in New Haven, cruising past Coco Vandeweghe before easing past Alize Cornet without losing a set. There were lots of doubts coming in with Kvitova, due to her diagnosis with Mono, but by beating Madison Keys from a set down, losing only three games in the final two sets, she recorded her first win of the summer hard court season. Kvitova leads the head to head 5-2 and both times she’s lost to Radwanska it’s been at the WTA Finals and she has played badly; if she’s not at her best it could be a repeat of that today. However if she’s near her best Radwanska will probably struggle to cope with her power. With Kvitova suffering with Mono we don’t know how well she’ll show up, though she should just edge this match.

Prediction: Kvitova in 3

2015 Connecticut Open- Wednesday Predictions

Action continues in New Haven today, with the four final second round matches taking place at the Connecticut Open. With quarter-final spots at stake, it should be exciting- here are three of my predictions!

Roberta Vinci vs Caroline Wozniacki

4th seed Caroline Wozniacki should have a difficult match against the inform Roberta Vinci third on Stadium Court. Wozniacki lost early in Stanford, Toronto and Cincinnati but sent out a statement of intent with a crushing 6-0 6-2 win over Alison Riske yesterday evening. Vinci also cruised in her first match, beating Genie Bouchard for the loss of just one match, and has been in good form the past few weeks, reaching the quarter-finals in Toronto. The head to head is evenly poised at 2-2 with Wozniacki having won their last meeting in Istanbul last year for the loss of just two games. However Wozniacki hasn’t been it that form this year and Vinci has a very tricky games to play against. It should be tight, but Wozniacki should edge this if she plays like she did yesterday.

Prediction: Wozniacki in 3

Agnieszka Radwanska vs Alize Cornet

Agnieszka Radwanska will be hoping for a more simple match against Alize Cornet today, as she had to come from a break down in the decider when she last played the Frenchwoman in Toronto. Neither Radwanska or Cornet have been in great form recently, with neither having won a title, and the Frenchwoman can clearly make life difficult for the Pole. However Radwanska has only lost once in their six previous meetings and lost just two games to Coco Vandeweghe the other day. The Frenchwoman is erratic, but should be able to give Radwanska a tough match today if she plays at her best. However Radwanska should just edge this.

Prediction: Radwanska in 3

Madison Keys vs Petra Kvitova

Petra Kvitova has an extremely difficult task on Wednesday as she faces the talented Madison Keys, who beat the 2nd seed at the Australian Open earlier this year. Kvitova has been struggling since she revealed she was diagnosed with Mono, and would have preferred to have played someone she could have easily overpowered today. However whilst Keys is erratic, she is extremely powerful and can hit lots of big winners and serves well. Her form has been erratic this year but, having already beaten Kvitova this year, has a good opportunity to get to the quarter-finals.

Prediction: Keys in 3

Also in action

Olga Savchuk faces Karolina Pliskova in the only other singles match today, whilst there are two doubles matches taking place. Also there are several US Open Doubles and Mixed Doubles matches taking place on the outside courts.

2015 Connecticut Open- Tuesday Predictions

Action continues in New Haven on Tuesday, with some first round matches and second round matches taking place at the Connecticut Open- Here are my predictions for three of the matches today!

Caroline Wozniacki vs Alison Riske

3rd seed and 4-time champion Caroline Wozniacki will be desperately looking for form before the US Open, but faces a difficult first round match against Alison Riske. Wozniacki has lost her first match in Stanford, Toronto and and Cincinnati and really needs to play better as she is in danger of slipping out of the top 5 after the US Open. Riske has played well in this summer hard court season, pushing Elina Svitolina to three sets twice and beating players such as Carla Suarez Navarro and Timea Bacsinszky over the past few weeks. This is certainly a great opportunity for Riske, and if she plays well she should see off Wozniacki if the Dane is still in poor form. However Riske can be erratic and if she isn’t playing well, Wozniacki will have an opportunity.

Prediction: Riske in 3

Lucie Safarova vs Irina-Camelia Begu

4th seed Lucie Safarova could have a difficult match as she faces Irina-Camelia Begu on Tuesday evening. Safarova hasn’t been in great form since her run to the French Open final but reached the quarter-finals in Cincinnati and played a good match against the talented Daria Gavrilova in the first round. Begu is having the best year, reaching a career high of 28th in the world, and battled past Zarina Diyas in the first round. Begu actually won the only meeting between the two, prevailing in three sets in Moscow last year, and both women have seemingly improved since then so it should be a competitive match. Safarova should have the edge in this match, though Begu will be able to push the 4th seed.

Prediction: Safarova in 3

Dominika Cibulkova vs Kristina Mladenovic

Dominika Cibulkova looks to continue her comeback as she faces rising star Kiki Mladenovic in the second round. Cibulkova has had mixed results during her comeback so far, but toughed out a three sets victory over Tsevtana Pironkova in the first round. Mladenovic was also made to work in her first round match, but eventually pulled off the upset against 8th seed Sara Errani and will be confident following that result. Cibulkova has won all four of their previous meetings, including in Sydney earlier this year, but has been injured since then and is not in as great shape as she was earlier on in the year. It’s been a good year for Mladenovic, reaching her first career final in Strasbourg, and this is a great opportunity for her to record her first victory over Cibulkova.

Prediction: Mladenovic in 3

Also in action

Barbora Strycova starts the action today against lucky loser Lesia Tsurenko, whilst Magdalena Rybarikova faces Caroline Garcia. There are also several doubles matches taking place.

W&S Open- Wednesday Women’s Predictions

The action is really beginning to heat up now, as the remainder of the top 8 seeds play their second round matches. 2nd seed Maria Sharapova has withdrawn, but there are still some big names in action and exciting matches taking place- Here are my predictions!

Kristina Mladenovic vs Simona Halep

Simona Halep will have to beat someone she has lost to twice before if she wants to reach the third round. Halep retired in the Rogers Cup final, but any concerns that she is struggling physically have been put to bed my her optimistic and cheerful appearances at press events this week. Mladenovic rebounded here after early exits in Washington and Toronto, cruising past Daniela Hantuchova in the first round, and has won both her previous meetings against Halep- in straight sets in Paris (Indoors) last year and in three sets in Birmingham this year. It is clear that Halep has an issue with the Frenchwoman’s game, though she is seemingly playing better than she was in Birmingham and should just have the edge here.

Prediction: Halep in 3

Jelena Jankovic vs Madison Keys

An extremely interesting match takes place first on Court 9 as former world No.1 and veteran Jelena Jankovic faces rising star  and great American hope Madison Keys. The American was very impressive in her first round match, easing past 12th seed Timea Bacsinszky in straight sets 6-4 6-3, though consistency can be a problem for her. Jankovic had a considerably harder match, battling past Madison Brengle, another American, 4-6 6-4 6-2. Jankovic leads the head to head 2-1 and won their last meeting at Indian Wells this year in 3 sets, though it seems this match will be on Keys’ racket. Like Bacsinszky, Jankovic is a counter-puncher and could be over-powered by Keys. However when the American is not playing well she makes too many unforced errors, and the experienced Jankovic will not waste too many opportunities.

Prediction: Jankovic in 3

Caroline Wozniacki vs Victoria Azarenka

5th seed Carolina Wozniacki has not won a match in the summer US hard court swing so far, and she will have to battle hard if she wants to pick up a win over her good friend Victoria Azarenka. Both former world No. 1’s, Azarenka has won their three meetings this year all in straight sets and she is certainly capable of over-powering the Dane. After a surprise loss to Sara Errani in straight sets last week, Azarenka responded perfectly with a crushing 6-1 6-2 win over Lauren Davis and seems to be in good form again. She will certainly be favourite for this match and considering the form Wozniacki is in, it seems unlikely that she’ll be able to come through.

Prediction: Azarenka in 2

Also in action

Serena Williams starts her title defence on Center against Tsvetana Pironkova, whilst Petra Kvitova has a potentially difficult match up against Caroline Garcia. Lucie Safarova will be looking to gain revenge on Coco Vandeweghe after the American’s victory over the 7th seed at Wimbledon, whilst Eugenie Bouchard will be aiming to beat 14th seed Elina Svitolina for the first time after two previous losses. Karolina Pliskova, Sloane Stephens and Belinda Bencic are also all in action.

Rogers Cup- Day 3 Women’s Picks

The third day of action starts in Toronto later today, with some big names and some blockbuster clashes taking place- it should be exciting! Here are my prediction!

Jelena Jankovic vs Simona Halep

The crowd on Centre Court could be treated to a great match here if it is anywhere near as good as the thrilling Indian Wells final Halep and Jankovic played earlier this year. Halep won that match 2-6 7-5 6-4, but has not been in great from since that match and comes into this tournament following early exits at Roland Garros and SW19. Jankovic really pushed the 2nd seed in that Indian Wells final, and she was quite impressive in a 7-6 6-2 victory over the talented Caroline Garcia in the 1st round. However Jankovic, with the exception of a stunning win over Petra Kvitova at Wimbledon, has also not been in great form since Indian Wells and can be inconsistent. Halep leads the head to head 4-1, though if there is a time for Jankovic to record a second victory it would probably be a time when Halep is low on confidence- like she is now.

Prediction: Halep in 3

Caroline Wozniacki vs Belinda Bencic

5th seed Wozniacki has an extremely difficult match here, as she faces someone who has beaten her this year in Belinda Bencic. Technically the last time they played was in Eastbourne but Wozniacki retired in the 1st set, meaning it’s probably not best to judge that match, but Bencic did see off the Dane 6-4 6-4 in Miami earlier this year. Wozniacki suffered a bad loss to Vavara Lepchenko in her first match in Stanford, and will be looking to try and pick up form on what was the best part of her season last year. Bencic saw off the struggling Eugenie Bouchard 6-0 5-7 6-2 in the first round though against Wozniacki she may not be allowed to waste chances, as she had match points in the second set yet was unable to take them.

Prediction: Bencic in 3

Victoria Azarenka vs Petra Kvitova

A blockbuster second round match kicks off the night session in Toronto, as two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka faces two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova. The two haven’t actually played each other since 2011, where Kvitova won the end of year championships final in 3 sets- she also leads the head to head 4-2. However Kvitova has announced she was diagnosed with Mononucleosis (A form of Glandular Fever) after Wimbledon and whilst she has been cleared to play, no one really knows what level she is really at. Azarenka is coming back from an injury-stricken 2014 and is nearing the top 20 again, with her also pushing Serena three times. However Kvitova is the only person to beat Serena this year, and can beat anyone when she is at her best. However we don’t know what level Kvitova will bring, and Azarenka will not be swept away by Kvitova’s power as much as some players are.

Prediction: Azarenka in 3

Also in action

Defending champion Agnieszka Radwanska starts her title defence with a match against lucky loser Julia Goerges. French Open and Wimbledon finalists Lucie Safarova and Garbine Muguruza start their campaigns against Daria Gavrilova and Lesia Tsurenko respectively, whilst Andrea Petkovic and Heather Watson face off for the chance to face Serena Williams. Ana Ivanovic starts her campaign, whilst seeds Angelique Kerber, Ekaterina Makarova and Sara Errani are also in action.

2015 Bank of the West Classic- Day 4 picks

The final second round matches take place later today in Stanford, as four of the top five seeds are in action in the Bank of the West Classic. Here are my picks for the matches today!

Caroline Wozniacki vs Vavara Lepchenko

Top seed and world number 5 Caroline Wozniacki starts her campaign against Vavara Lepchenko today. Wozniacki has had an average year- She’s No. 11 on the Road to Singapore- and will be looking to start well on what was a strong part of the year for her last year. The former world no.1 faces Vavara Lepchenko in her first match. Lepchenko came through 3-6 6-2 7-6 vs Mirjana Lucic-Baroni in the first round, but will be rested after having a day off on tuesday. Lepchenko certainly has the game to beat Wozniacki and was a semi-finalist here last year, but has only won one set in four meetings against the Dane.

Prediction: Wozniacki in 2

Karolina Pliskova vs Kimiko Date Krumm

Karolina Pliskova will look to bounce back after a disappointing Wimbledon with a run in her first hard court tournament of the summer. She faces a woman almost 22 years older than her in Kimiko Date Krumm. The Japanese qualifier was a set and 4-1 down to Sabine Lisicki, but was able to then play consistently and take advantage of the German’s errors to pull off a stunning 1-6 7-6 6-2 victory. Pliskova serves big like Lisicki, but is more consistent and usually makes few errors so Krumm will be able to rely on few cheap points if the Czech is at her best. If Pliskova plays well there can only be one winner, surely?

Prediction: Pliskova in 2

Angelique Kerber vs Ana Konjuh

Two women who were impressive in their first round matches face off here. 17 year old Konjuh was impressive in a 6-3 6-4 victory over Saisai Zheng, whilst 5th seed Kerber was extremely impressive in a 6-1 6-3 victory over the tricky Daria Gavrilova. Kerber is clearly the favourite on paper, due to her better all-round game and experience, but will need to be careful to not give Konjuh many second serves, as this is Kerber’s main weakness and Konjuh must attack any second serves she gets. Konjuh should also try and finish points quickly, as Kerber is a good counter puncher and will be the favourite the longer the rallies get.

Prediction: Kerber in 2

Misaki Doi vs Agnieszka Radwanska

There is a lot of interest going into this match, following the news that this match was delayed to today so Radwanska could have more time to recover from a back injury. Whatever your view on this decision is (Personally, I don’t think it should be allowed) the match between Radwanska and Japanese qualifier Misaki Doi is going ahead today. Usually you would expect Radwanska to cruise through this match, but the injury news makes this match much more uncertain- Will Radwanska be fit and ready? If she was fit, I would have predicted Radwanska to win in straight sets, but now it’s almost impossible to predict the result as there is far too much uncertainty going into it.

Also in action

There is Germany vs China in the doubles, as Mona Barthel and Sabine Lisicki face Yi-Fan Xu and Saisai Zheng. The Chinese Taipei pair Hao-Ching Chan and Yung-Jan Chan face Kateryna Bondarenko and Tatjana Maria, whilst Ajla Tomljanovic and Asia Muhammad face Gabriela Dabrowski and Alicja Rosolska.
